The music program at Quest celebrated a culminating event last week with support from renowned ‘cellist and Director of Music at American University in Washington, D.C., Nancy Jo Snider. Ms. Snider spent three days at Quest capping off a music composition project that students had been working on with their music teacher, Antonio Forte. Antonio studied under Ms. Snider while studying music at American.
During this school year, Elementary and Middle School Music has been devoted to the study of composers, the work of music composition, and the integration of various instruments and technology within a piece. Antonio reached out to Nancy to discuss his project and asked if she might interact with our students via Skype. Nancy suggested traveling to Quest instead to meet with the students and help bring their music to life.
While visiting Quest, Nancy spent her time performing, leading workshops on her craft, helping students fine tune their compositions, as well as leading a masterclass with our own OrQuestra. On Friday, Quest students and parents gathered in the Barn for a performance of their work. Pieces were performed by, or in collaboration with Antonio and Nancy, and it was spectacular to hear each piece come to life.
